My First Podcast!

My first podcast! 🔊 I’m excited to have had the opportunity to chat with Boris Kievsky from dotOrgStrategy on the Nonprofit Hero Factory podcast! We talked about evaluation, of course, and what it can really mean for supporting nonprofit heroes. Give it a listen, a watch, or a read!

MCN Conference Wrap-Up

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES amiright?? 😅 Despite a little bit of Zoom drama, I had a great conversation this morning with a fantastic and patient group of nonprofits about how to use evaluation in a way that's truly useful for their organizations, how evaluation can facilitate community engagement, and even how evaluation intersects with the larger power dynamics we face as nonprofit professionals.

I'll call it a win.

The session recording will be available for all Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Annual Conference attendees until the end of the year (Registration is Pay As Able if you haven't signed up yet).

I would like to thank my training as a teacher and performing artist for the ability to adapt and go with the flow. 😂 And of course a very special thanks and kudos to the amazing MCN staff who had my back and made sure things stayed smooth when our tech did not!

Just got my copy! I'm so excited to dive into this workbook! As a white business owner and descendent of colonizers I consider it my responsibility to use the resources I have as tools for equity and redistribution, and to do my part to heal the deep wounds in the United States and beyond. I'm so grateful to Edgar Villanueva and the Decolonize Wealth Movement for guidance and teachings that support me in this practice.

Can we make #MoneyMedicineMonday a thing? Let's start a conversation: Have you read these works? What are you doing to redistribute wealth or use money for healing?

Article: How White People Conquered the Nonprofit Industry

"Well, if white supremacy by definition means white people at the helm, then once white people continue to hold positions of power over black and brown people, white supremacy will continue. Even the most well-meaning of anti-racist allies will have blind spots and make grave miscalculations on matters concerning the well-being of people of color. Nevertheless, the nonprofit industry as a collective continues to hire and promote them, proving that it is more important to have gainfully employed white progressives with fulfilling careers, than it is to actually rectify systemic inequalities by putting the right people at the forefront."

Article: Stop Telling Women They Have Imposter Syndrome

I saw this article a few days ago. For this #motivationmonday let's all affirm that if we made it here, we belong here!"In truth, we don’t belong because we were never supposed to belong. Our presence in most of these spaces is a result of decades of grassroots activism and begrudgingly developed legislation. Academic institutions and corporations are still mired in the cultural inertia of the good ol’ boys’ clubs and white supremacy. Biased practices across institutions routinely stymie the ability of individuals from underrepresented groups to truly thrive. The answer to overcoming imposter syndrome is not to fix individuals but to create an environment that fosters a variety of leadership styles and in which diverse racial, ethnic, and gender identities are seen as just as professional as the current model, which Opie describes as usually “Eurocentric, masculine, and heteronormative.”
